Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has received six Grammy Award nominations.
The ‘Rehab’ hit-maker, whose erratic behaviour has recently threatened to eclipse her music, is in the running for gongs including song of the year, best album and record of the year and best new artist.
Rapper Kanye West was the only star with more nods as the 50th annual Grammy nominations were announced last night (Thur) at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater in Hollywood.
West has a total of eight nominations from his latest album ‘Graduation,’ which sold nearly 1 million copies in its first week.
Both West andWinehouse have had difficult years.
The rapper has been mourning the death of his mother last month while the soul singer has battled health issues that have forced her to cancel scores of shows.
Five acts received five nominations each – rock band the Foo Fighters, rapper Jay-Z, hip-hop producer Timbaland, pop singer Justin Timberlake, and R&B singer T-Pain.
Nominees for best album include Foo Fighters for ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace,’ Vince Gill for ‘These Days’ and Herbie Hancock for ‘River: The Joni Letters.’
The nominees for song of the year are ‘Before He Cheats’ performed by Carrie Underwood, ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White Ts, ‘Like a Star’ by Corinne Bailey Rae, ‘Rehab’ from Amy Winehouse and ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna.
Record of the year nominations went to Beyonce’s ‘Irreplaceable,’ the Foo Fighters’ ‘The Pretender,’ Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella,’ Justin Timberlake’s ‘What Goes Around Comes Around” and Winehouse’s ‘Rehab.’
The 50th annual Grammy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, February 10 Winners will be announced during ceremonies in Los Angeles on February 10.
