The mother of British pop star Lily Allen has revealed that her daughter was left so distraught after breaking up with her first boyfriend – she wanted to end her life.
The ‘Smile’ singer’s mum Alison revealed that Lily split with her teenage sweetheart Lester when she was just 15.
“It was the only time I’ve been seriously worried about her,’ Alison explains. “She was on the verge of being suicidal. Lily took an overdose and tried to cut her wrists.
“I took her to the Priory where they could keep a 24-hour watch on her. She was in for four weeks…it was a turning point.”
Lily, now 22, has been fairly honest about her past drug use – but this new revelation comes as a shock.
“In my teens I did experiment with drugs,” Lily told Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine. “I don’t know anyone now who isn’t a drug-taker, in recovery from drugs or on prescription drugs.
“I was about 15 when I smoked my first spliff.”
