Emu attacks Lorraine Kelly on GMTV

Lorraine KellyChat show host Lorraine Kelly struggled to get out of a headlock with Emu – ten years after the cheeky bird first attacked her.

The presenter was interviewing Toby Hull – son of the late entertainer Rod – when she was nearly knocked off the sofa by the aggressive puppet.

She struggled to read the autocue and tried to stifle her giggles on her programme LK Today.

Emu must have a fondness for chat show hosts.

The bird famously attacked Michael Parkinson in 1976, also causing him to fall off his chair.

Toby bought Emu out of retirement in 2003, the first time since his father’s death, to star in pantomime in Windsor. The pair are due to appear in their own series on CITV.

Rod was a popular entertainer in the 1970s and 1980s. He died after falling from the roof of his house, while trying to adjust the TV aerial.

Rarely seen without Emu, comedian Billy Connolly once told Rod: “If that bird comes anywhere near me, I’ll break its neck and your bloody arm!”

In later years, Parkinson always bemoaned the fact that despite all the star guests he had interviewed during his career, he would always be remembered for “that bloody bird”.
