It seems Hugh Laurie’s grueling boxing regime may finally be paying off – he’s been showing off his trim physique during a Christmas break in the sunshine.
The ex-Blackadder star and unlikely sex symbol stripped down to his shorts for a spot of snorkeling with his family in the Caribbean.
He adopted the punishing fitness plan after scooping the American’s Sexiest Man title – and has been feeling the pressure to live up to it.
And it seemed some fun in the sun was proving a mood lifter for the comedian, who’s been down in the dumps since leaving his wife Jo and three children at home in London to film hit US medical drama House.
Despite his newfound energy, Laurie plumped for easy-peasy snorkeling instead of more strenuous water-skiing or banana-boating on offer at the £1,000 a night resort.
Onlookers said the paradise island water sports looked to be hitting the spot. “Hugh definitely seemed to be relaxing in the sun, he was totally carefree and messing around like he was a kid himself again.
“He’s obviously a real family man at heart and must have been thrilled to finally be spending some quality time with his kids.
“It was fantastic weather and after all those workouts Hugh wasted no time in getting his torso out on the beach – he’s obviously happy with the results.”
Despite his woes, Los Angeles-based Laurie, 48, has no reason to complain – he’s now one of America’s top TV earners, picking up a knockout $300,000 a show. He’s currently vying to win a Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama for the second year running with his role as a grumpy hospital doctor in House.
Although the former star of comedies such as Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie has charmed his way to sexiest man title – bestowed by America’s influential TV Guide – rumours of a mid-life crisis are rife in Hollywood.
Laurie’s added fuel to the fire by snapping up a bright orange vintage Porsche 911.

Those photos of him arriving back in London were taken well before they left for their vacation. They’re there, and have been there more than a week. I’m sure the pics will show up someplace.

Nice try Mr Williams, but I really don’t believe you – a few days ago there were photos of Hugh arriving at his London home with wife Jo. As much as Hugh’s a jetsetter I really don’t think he’d go to London for a day or two, only to fly out to where he came from. I stick to my scepticism.

Hopefully you’re just doing so because you really, really want to see the pictures and hope you can bully it out of Owen. Otherwise you need a map, some common sense and the understanding that Hugh Laurie doesn’t have to send out his itinerary when he and the family take a holiday. The trip happened. The pictures exist.
