Eddie Murphy and his new bride will hold a legal wedding ceremony in the US

Eddie Murphy and Tracey EdmondsEddie Murphy and his new bride will hold a legal wedding ceremony in the US – after claims that their marriage is “invalid”.

The actor and comedian – father of Spice Girl Mel B’s baby daughter Angel Iris – tied the knot with Tracey Edmonds this week on paradise island Bora Bora, in French Polynesia.

But according to the couple’s reps, the tropical ceremony was simply to “bind them spiritually”.

They say legality questions surrounding the marriage are about to be properly addressed. “As is typical when couples get married in foreign countries, a legal ceremony will take place when they return to the US,” Edmonds’s rep told one US website. “The wedding that took place in Bora Bora was a ceremony to bind Eddie and Tracey spiritually in the presence of family and friends.

“The couple plan a legal ceremony as soon as they return to the States.”

It was claimed that the 46-year-old comic’s marriage was invalid because couples wishing to marry on the island must live near the wedding spot for at least 30 days for it to be valid.

One source said: “A marriage on the beach would be like… a fake marriage. It’s not a real marriage if it is on the beach with only a local priest.

“I think it was just an exotic, artistic ‘marriage’.

“You need to have residence for at least 30 days – one month in the island of Bora Bora for instance – and this is not the case.”

However, there is an exception to the 30 day rule – if the ceremony takes place in the town hall in front of the mayor.
