Keira Knightley to boycott Golden Globes

British Actress Keira Knightley is set to join forces with a whole host of Hollywood stats in boycotting this year’s Golden Globe awards in support of striking writers, jeopardizing one of the entertainment industry’s most prestigious events.
22-year-old Knightley – who has been nominated for Best Actress for her role as Cecilia Tallis
in the Joe Wright directed movie ‘Atonement’ – was due to walk down the red carpet at next Sunday’s ceremony in Beverly Hills.
But the actress, whose mother is playwright, screenwriter and former actress Sharman Macdonald, has announced she will not be crossing the picket line.
Actors represented by the Screen Actors Guild are said to be in “unanimous agreement” not to ignore the action being taken by members of the Writers Guild of America union, who are protesting over royalties.
Alan Rosenberg, president of Screen Actors Guild told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: “There appears to be unanimous agreement that Golden Globes actor nominees will not cross picket lines.”
The Hollywood A-Listers that could potentially snub the prestigious show include Julia Roberts, George Clooney, John Travolta, Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster and Johnny Depp.
However, America’s NBC said it was sticking to plans to air the ceremony on January 13.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the awards, said it was wrestling with the “unfortunate predicament”.
“We are making every effort to work out a solution,” said Jorge Camara, the group’s president.
The Golden Globes show brings in a reported $5million for the Association and millions more in ad revenue for NBC.
SAG said previously that the decision to attend was a personal one for its members.
