Britney Spears given a restraining order

Britney SpearsBritney Spears was hit with a restraining order during the dramatic custody stand-off at her home, it emerged last night.

The troubled pop star was hospitalized following the bizarre incident last week, when for three hours she refused to hand over her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Now his lawyer has claimed that Los Angeles police had to slap her with a “temporary protective order” – reportedly to protect Federline.

The order means Spears could not come within 100ft of the ‘victim’ and lasted for five business days.

Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s attorney, told People magazine it was done to “stabilize the situation”.
He said he did not request the order and, after it ran out on Tuesday, declined to say whether he would seek to extend it.

Although Kaplan did not specify who it related to, gossip website TMZ.com claimed it was to protect Federline himself.

LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez, who could not confirm the restraining order on Spears, explained the it is usually “issued by officers when there’s the possibility of imminent and immediate danger to the victim.”

Kaplan added: “Kevin doesn’t want to keep his kids from being involved in [Spears's] life. But foremost is that the kids be in an environment of structure [and] stability.

“The next goal is to get things to a point where both parents are able to participate fully in their [children's] lives.”

Following the incident Spears was stripped of all visitation rights with sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, pending the ex-couple’s next custody hearing on Jan. 14.
