Newlywed Katherine Heigl says that sex with husband Josh Kelley is ten times better now than when they first met.
The Grey’s Anatomy star, who has been with her man since 2005, says: “It’s always been phenomenal, but I think our sex life is ten times better than it was. We understand each other better.
“It’s just a whole different ball game. You feel sheltered in the moment, whether you’re being wild and crazy and you’re doing your striptease…or it’s just more mellow.”
Heigl, 29, lets fans in on her bedroom secrets in the February issue of US Cosmopolitan magazine, which hits the shelves just weeks after she married Kelley last month.
The actress met her rock star husband, who is two years her junior, when she starred in one of his music videos.
She says: “Josh came into my life and I realised: ‘Oh my God, you’re someone I can really trust and go to when things are hard’.
“To have that in a partner is huge.”
The actress, who is on a career high at the moment after appearing in last year’s hit movie Knocked Up, now stars in romantic comedy 27 Dresses.
But although she is one of most popular stars in Hollywood, Heigl insists that she is still down-to-earth admitting that working out is one of her least favourite pastimes. She does it, she says, because being skinny isn’t in her genetic make-up.
“I don’t have a lot of discipline,” Heigl says. “If I wasn’t in this industry I wouldn’t work out. But I have hips and a butt and everything that goes along with that, including cellulite.
“So I do the best I can.”
The 5ft 9 blonde also admits that she is “mouthy”, which is why US Cosmopolitan named her their Fun, Fearless Female of the Year.
She says: “People who know me well know that I have an opinion about pretty much everything.”
Heigl was quick to comment at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards when then Grey’s Anatomy co-star Isaiah Washington publicly denied calling fellow cast member and her personal friend, T R Knight, a faggot.
At the time Heigl told Access Hollywood: “I don’t think [Washington] means it the way he comes off…But, T R is my best friend. I will throw down for that kid. I will beat you up. I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings.”
Heigl made her remarks without endorsement from the show’s producers or ABC, the US TV network that broadcasts it. “You can’t give me too much credit for being brave,” she says now looking back a year later.
“I was just a girl who had had a couple of drinks and was angry and got mouthy.”
While she has no regrets about the comments she made, Heigl thought they might have got her in trouble.
She says: “I really did think it would f*** me. As I was opening my mouth, I kept thinking: ‘Shut up’.
“But it’s an issue that I felt really passionately about.”
Although she appeared in TV commercials here and there and had bit parts in movies in her teens and 20s, Heigl did not hit it big until she joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in 2005, playing the character Dr Isobel ‘Izzie’ Stevens.
Heigl doesn’t regret her long road to stardom though, saying: “My mother says she thinks I wouldn’t have appreciated [success] the same way if it had come faster or more easily. Now it’s a much bigger reward.”
