James Blunt blasts the X Factor

James BluntBritish singer James Blunt has hit out at TV talent shows like Simon Cowell’s X Factor — claiming they give out the wrong message to young people.

The ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer, 33, has jumped on the same bandwagon as Blur frontman Damon Albarn and Scots singer Amy Macdonald in criticizing the current obsession with fame and reality TV shows.

The five times Grammy-nominated singer said: “I don’t think we should be teaching the whole country that success is defined by things like fame and money. That seems pretty shallow.

“And more and more, we orientate the world around celebrity rather than actually any kind of depth of skills and talents.

“Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate what we suggest is success. Maybe we should value it by things like happiness.”

James – who has previously dated supermodel Petra Nemcova, said that he hadn’t heard of 2007 X Factor winner Leon Jackson, despite his Christmas chart success. “I didn’t follow any of X Factor,” he said. “I’ve been all over the world promoting All Our Souls so I haven’t kept abreast of what’s in the charts.”
