John Travolta is helping one of his Grease co-stars battle drug addiction – by introducing him to controversial religion Scientology.
Troubled Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie in the hit 70s movie, revealed the actor has given him a “library” of books on the subject.
He has also given the recovering addict a Scientology ‘auditor’, who is helping the reality TV star overcome his problems.
Conaway, 57, admitted he was addicted to cocaine, painkillers and alcohol when he starred in VH1 reality show Celebrity rehab.
The Grease star, who can barely walk following a crippling back injury, took part in the show to try and fight his demons – but quit in the seventh episode.
Harrowing scenes in the series showed him lying in a hospital bed, having fits of rage, and screaming in pain after going cold turkey.
Now Conaway has revealed he has turned to Travolta – and Scientology – to help him try and battle his addictions.
“John and I stayed friends, but he couldn’t watch me going down the tubes,” he told US entertainment show Inside Edition. “He gave me a whole library of Scientology books and he’s given me an auditor that comes almost every day.”
The actor, who speech is slurred due to his drug abuse, claims he is now off heavy drugs, but still takes prescription medicine for pain.
Travolta, 54, joined Scientology in 1975 and endorses the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard.
In 2000 he starred in the movie Battlefield Earth, which is based on a work of science fiction by Hubbard.
Hey, I say whatever can save his life at this point. Who are we to judge?

SCIENTOLOGY AND TRAVOLTA ARE CYNICALLY TROTTING OUT THIS POOR GOOFBALL FOR THEIR OWN PURPOSES. This celebrity rehab reject, Conway, bless his heart, is just a PR tool for The Cult of Scientology. I wish this guy the best and hope he stays off the dope, but the multiple press releases are designed to convince stupid people that THE CULT gives a shit.
If you’re not a celeb, they want your money. If you are a celeb THE CULT will use you like a $2 whore.

The previous posting is obviously one of a highly intelligent individual with extensive knowlege and reality on Scientology and it’s benefits to mankind. You are a hopeless person and the works of L. Ron Hubbard are far beyond anything you could possbily understand. The obvious reason you put it down. Shame on you! How can you say in one breath you hope for the best for this sick man and then in the next breath say it’s wrong? Perhaps it’s YOU who needs help. Get a real job and maybe you too can afford to get some reality on something you know absolutely nothing about. Then come back and say something credible. It is people like you that make our country weak and ignorant.

If Jeff sticks with it he will come out a lot better than when he went in. I have spoken to several people who have gone through the Scientology programs (Narcanon), some who are not Scientologists, and they all said it was great; very affective. The one who was herion addict said he had tried other things and it was the only one that worked, and he has been ‘clean’ for over 10 years now and would never consider going back!
Funny how a “cult” could do such good, I would think. Perhaps all of the things being said by the critics are being said for alternative reasons? I mean, who am I to suggest the press would slant information for their own use…..that would never happen, would it?

after watching celebrity rehab, Jeff Conway is in serious need of help if he’s going to survive. I don’t know a lot about scientology and I don’t know what my position on the religion is. I feel the secrecy is a bit ominous, but from what I understand their anti drug programs seem to work. And if this is a way that Jeff can get clean. Then all the more power to him. After seeing him in celebrity rehab and his early departure, perhaps the anti drug position in scientology will help save this man. Regardless of the bad publicity, publicity that I have serious qualms about, if this program can save this man’s life, I cannot and will not criticize him for making such a drastic step to save his own life. There’s no denial that the anti drug position of the church is absolutely not going to be detrimental to a man who’s so addictive to chemical substances. I don’t like the seemingly cultish practices, but it isn’t something thats been proven. I do know they have a drug rehab that’s prevented many people from falling into the pitfalls of drug abuse. So God bless any attempts for him to keep sober. I sincerely hope this program will help him kick his dependency to the drugs that are killing him. And if it succeeds, then I will definitely have to revamp some of my negative views of the church. They do seem to be sincere in their anti drug views. I wish you luck Jeff. And admire your continued dedication to becoming sober. Regardless of where you find that help. I will be sending positive thoughts out to you. You’re a talented actor and I think if you can kick your intense substance abuse problems, you will save your life. And if that will allow you to reconnect with the talent that has been untapped within you since your back injury and the dependency that began at that point, I think we’d avert the loss of an incredible talent that has been, up until this point sublimated by your unfortunate decent into addiction that’s hindered your talent and almost ruined a career with so much potential. If scientology can help you regain that potential, then work it. Put yourself into it wholeheartedly. The world would lose a great talent. I’m directing every bit of positive energy that I have inside of me. I just want to see you survive. You still have so much to offer. You’re an incredible talent, but the drugs have stunted that talent. And if you can get sober I think you’ll find that talent is still here, waiting to be tapped into once again.
Peace be with you Jeff, you’re an amazing actor and I know the world wants you to return to that talent. I just worry that continuous use of drugs will wind up depriving you of being in touch with that talent. You’re a fine actor and I think the drugs have stunted that talent… a talent I believe is not only still there but is waiting to unchain itself to your chemical dependency.

Scientology’s “drug rehab” program involves excessive sauna/steambath sessions coupled with potentially dangerous levels of niacin (Vitamin C). It does NOTHING to actually detox the body. And auditing is nothing but covert hypnosis. It’s all about making $$$$$$!
