Controversial photographer Annie Leibovitz is speaking out in defense over the semi-topless photos she took of teen sensation Miley Cyrus for Vanity Fair magazine.
“I’m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted,” the famed snapper said in a statement. “Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together, and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it.
“The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful.”
The Hannah Montana star, 15, issued a statement saying she was “embarrassed” over the photos and apologized to her fans.
The Disney Channel claims the magazine “manipulated” her, but a Vanity Fair rep insists that, “Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.”
Michele Combs, a spokesperson for Christian Coalition of America, says Disney should reprimand Miley for the photo.
“Disney should reprimand her,” Combs says. “Kids look up to her.
“Something needs to be done.
“If she’s gonna go out there and represent wholesome values, she needs to be more accountable for her actions,” she said.
