If James McAvoy wasn’t actor, he’d be a Catholic priest.
“I considered becoming a priest very seriously. I wanted to travel the world – and as a young Catholic it seemed the easiest way,” the Atonement star, 29, tells Britain’s Closer magazine. “By the time I turned 16, I realized I was only in it for selfish reasons, and there were easier ways to explore the world.
“And, more importantly, I didn’t want to sacrifice the ladies!”
The actor — who’s married to British actress Anne Marie Duff — says the couple try to organize their schedules so that, when one of them is working on a film, the other one takes some time off.
He explained: “I’m slowing down now and I’ll be her bitch while she makes a movie!
“You need to take a break and breathe at times.”
He added: “I’m tired now, and fancy stopping for a while and just sitting in my house. If I make too many movies people will get sick of me!”
Despite having hit the big time, James and his wife keep their feet firmly on the ground. They live in a small flat, share a Nissan Micra car and have shunned the Hollywood lifestyle. He said: “We don’t have a lavish lifestyle – I’m not earning millions, and I wouldn’t want to live in LA.
“I love visiting my family in Glasgow, going to watch Celtic football team play and having some traditional Glaswegian food.”
