Miley Cyrus to skip Disney red carpet event

Miley CyrusTeen sensation Miley Cyrus will not be attending her first scheduled public appearance since the controversy surrounding her risqué photo shoot for Vanity Fair, Disney said Thursday.

The 15-year-old ‘Hannah Montana’ starlet has, for several weeks, been scheduled to attend a red carpet event this coming Friday in Orlando, along with dozens of other Disney Channel stars, but Disney confirmed she is no longer expected.

Disney did not elaborate on the change in Cyrus’ status for the party.

In the photos, Miley is clothed but shown by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz in such a way that the teen appears to be topless.

In another of the photos, Cyrus is shown from the side, with most of her back bare, clutching what appears to be a satin sheet loosely around herself.

Leibovitz and Vanity Fair defended the snaps, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.

Cyrus said earlier this week that she was “embarrassed” by the pictures and apologized to fans.

The Disney Channel, after learning of the Vanity Fair photo spread and article also issued a statement critical of the magazine. “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines,” the statement read.

I think that everyone should just leave Miley alone about this it was a beautiful picture and it is not like it showed anything. People these days think because you are a teen star and your audience is mostly kids that you have to be this perfect person and I think that is a lot of bull. It was a beautiful artsy photo and I think that she shouldn’t have to be embarrassed by it at all.
