TV legend Sir Trevor McDonald is reportedly planning to leave ITV’s News at Ten at the end of the year.
McDonald, 68, who was persuaded out of retirement when ITV revived their flagship news bulletin, is now planning to quit after the US presidential election on November 4.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Sir Trevor is still enjoying presenting the news but he has done what he set out to do.
“He has relaunched News At Ten and ratings have got better recently. So he feels it could be a good time to hand over the reins to Mark Austin.
“He is not getting any younger and has lots of things he wants to do outside of News At Ten.”
The show’s ratings, at 2.5 million, are lower than ITV chiefs had expected.
