Emotion + Rain For Bonnaroo As Pearl Jam Stun With Three-hour Set

PEARL JAM and MY MORNING JACKET thrilled crowds at the Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival in Tennessee over a humid, rain-soaked weekend (13-15Jun08) with epic three-hour performances.

In only their second festival show since fans were killed during the band’s appearance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark in 2000, Pearl Jam ran over their scheduled time slot by an hour on Saturday night (14Jun08).

Frontman Eddie Vedder told fans, who had braved the stifling heat and rain showers to see the band live, that he and his bandmates had considered never playing at a festival again after the tragedy.

But the happy singer told the Bonnaroo faithful he was glad Pearl Jam were still playing large outdoor events.

He said, “After seeing B.B. King and Jack Johnson and Cat Power, it makes you realise how it can work.”

Vedder, who returned to festival shows with an appearance at last year’s (07) Lollapalooza, called the experience “really great”.

He held back tears as fans held up lighters during the band’s Better Man, taking a moment to state, “That’s beautiful.”

Saturday’s Bonnaroo festivities began as Friday night’s had ended – with torrential rain.

Storms soaked the Manchester site, near Nashville, hours before Pearl Jam’s set – much as it had during My Morning Jacket’s three-hour tent performance on Friday night (13Jun08).
