CHAZ Bono has heaped praise on his “amazing” girlfriend.

Bono — the eldest child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono — says Jennifer Elia, who he’s dated for four years, has been completely supportive during his process of becoming a man.

“She’s been amazing,” Bono, 40, told Entertainment Tonight in the second part of a two-part interview, airing Friday. “I feel really grateful to be going through this with a partner.”

“I didn’t just spring this on Jennifer recently,” Bono explains.”This was something she knew about shortly after we met.”

Chaz and Jennifer were set up through mutual friends at a barbecue thrown at Bono’s house.

“Our relationship always modeled a heterosexual relationship, emotionally and intellectually,” Bono adds. “So now it does physically as well.”

Cher’s reaction to her child’s transformation, however, remains private.

“The people in my life are just happy that I’m doing this,” Bono says, “and seeing the positive effect that it’s having on me.”

Cher’s daughter, Chastity Bono, is getting a sex change. “Yes, it’s true – Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity,” said Bono’s rep. [People]
