The No Such Thing hitmaker — who has previously dated actress Jennifer Aniston – says he isn’t worried what what the tabloids say about him, because all he cares about is his music.

“I didn’t really kill anybody,” Mayer said. “I didn’t smash a car, I didn’t commit a crime… I don’t like the idea that there’s an indictment on anything that I do.

“The idea that there has been a sullying of my image… I’m not going to be buried with an Us Weekly. I don’t give a s**t about it anymore.”

Mayer — who has also dated Jessica Simpson — recently insisted he keeps quiet about his breakups.

“I haven’t really been vocal about my break-ups,” he said. “I don’t think you’ll find me in a whole bunch of places talking about it all.

“Everybody in life picks up little dignity lessons as they go and unfortunately while all these other great things have come into my life through what I do, one of the challenges is that I have to pick up my dignity lessons in public.

“There have been the occasional embarrassments in my life and they would be embarrassing enough between two people but I have mine played out in public. But on the whole I have kept quiet.”

CROONER John Mayer has defended Britney Spears for lip syncing in Australia.

The Gravity singer — who is also in Australia promoting his latest album — blasted fans who had called for a refund after the Womanizer star’s show in Perth after she sparked outrage by not singing live for her whole performance.

“If you’re shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you,” Mayer wrote on his Twitter account.

Britney, 27, was said to have hid in her hotel room on Saturday following her performance on Friday night.

A representative for the star said, “Britney is aware of all this and she’s extremely upset by it.”

In response to the show fans protested about the high ticket prices and “impersonal” nature of the show.

Concertgoer Wendy Di Renzo, 36, said, “It was so impersonal. She did not interact with her audience. There were no big TV screens projecting the action, so if you didn’t know Britney, you might have even doubted it was her.”

Complaints against the Gimme More singer also included that she never referred to Perth by name, instead giving a generic welcome to fans, saying: “What’s up Australia?”

Another fan, who left the show early, said, “I want my money back or I want her to sing properly. The ticket cost me $200 and she lip-synced the whole thing.”

Politicians in three Australian states — Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales — have now called for new laws to force music promoters to disclose whether a concert will be live or lip-synced beforehand.

Britney will next perform in Melbourne on November 11.

Simpson split from beau Tony Romo on July 9 — the night before her 29th birthday. It was then rumored that John — who has previously dated Jennifer Aniston — might want to get back with his ex-girlfriend.

But Mayer’s pal Rob Dyrdek insists the No Such Thing hitmaker has no intention of healing Jessica’s broken heart.
