Little Britain star Matt Lucas has been left devastated after his ex-husband hanged himself.

Kevin McGee, 32, left a message on his Facebook profile suggesting he wanted to kill himself four hours before police broke into his Edinburgh flat to find his body on Monday morning.

“Kevin McGee thinks death is much better than life,” he wrote on the social-networking site.

The pair — who had dated for four years before tying the knot — wed in December 2006. But they split 18 months later and officially divorced in October last year.

“Kevin just couldn’t get over what had happened with Matt,” a source told British newspaper the Daily Mirror.

“He just couldn’t handle life without Matt.

“All of his friends saw the Facebook messages, we are just devastated we were too late to stop him.

“Kevin had a problem with coke, he had been in rehab in the south coast and London but nothing seemed to help.

“He went to Edinburgh, and tried to take up sport to focus his mind. But he had a relapse, he just couldn’t get over what had happened with Matt.

“Kevin got about £1.8million from the settlement, but he still had unpaid bills, he couldn’t even afford to pay for his mobile.

“The coke was the reason they split in the first place.

“Matt even paid for him to go to rehab but he just couldn’t kick the habit.”

Last night a Lothian and Borders police spokesman confirmed, “Police were called to an address in Bruntsfield Gardens, at 8am, where they found the body of a 32-year-old man.”

British comedian MATT LUCAS has given up on his mission to lose weight – after fans took naked photographs of him in the gym.

The rotund star’s secret was exposed by his Little Britain co-star David Walliams on a U.S talk show.

Walliams told Lucas during an interview on the Late Show with Conan O’Brien, “You stopped going to the gym because someone tried to take a picture of you naked on their camera phone while you were in the changing room.

“That’s the price of fame.”

The interview will be aired in the U.S next week (begs29Sep08).

British funnyman MATT LUCAS has taken inspiration from EDDIE MURPHY and comedic actor MIKE MYERS for his new LITTLE BRITAIN movie.

The funnyman has revealed plans for a film that will see him and comedian pal David Walliams play multiple characters.

Lucas says, “We’ve got an idea that excites us that we hope will appeal to audiences in lots of different countries.

“The two of us will play five or six characters that will go around together, so it’ll be technically very challenging.

“We looked at people like Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy and how they appear as lots of different characters.”

The movie – which is currently unnamed – will be produced by Ben Stiller’s production company, Red Hour, in collaboration with DreamWorks.

Lucas, 34, married Kevin McGee in a civil partnership ceremony in London in 2006 – meaning the 31-year-old TV producer could now claim up to half of the comedian’s estimated $20 million (GBP10 million) fortune.

The British funnyman has now hired legal firm Mishcon de Reya – the same representatives initially used by Heather Mills in her separation from Sir Paul McCartney and by the late Diana, Princess of Wales in her divorce from Charles, Prince of Wales .

The couple wed in a lavish ceremony followed by a costume-themed reception at the Banqueting Hall in London’s Whitehall in December 2006, where Lucas dressed as Aladdin and McGee as Prince Charming.

A joint statement released on Wednesday (18Jun08) reads: “It is with sadness Matt and Kevin announce their relationship has come to an end. Their separation is amicable.”

The break-up comes just one day after gay unions were made official in California.

The couple had been together for three years and were engaged for seven months before their civil ceremony.
