Kathleen Turner Slams Elizabeth Taylor's Acting Credentials

By WENN, June 1 2008

Outspoken actress KATHLEEN TURNER has blasted Hollywood veteran DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR's acting talents, insisting her performances in the screen icon's film remakes are "better" than the originals.

The Romancing The Stone star took on Taylor's role in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof in 1990, making her Broadway debut with the character that Taylor made famous in a 1958 movie.

And the actress returned to New York's renowned theatre district in 2005 to play the female lead in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf - the same role Taylor played in a 1966 film.

But Turner doesn't believe Taylor's original performances are worthy of acclaim.

She says, "I've played lots of roles that Liz Taylor played and played them much better.

"I like to think of myself as fixing the roles that she played in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf."
