Sex has beaten INDIANA JONES to the top of the world box office.

Sex and the City: The Movie is the globe's big movie winner after edging out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to claim the number one spot outside the U.S.

The adaptation of the hit U.S. TV series earned an estimated $38.2 million (GBP19.1 million) during its second weekend on release.

The film ended Indiana Jones' two week reign at the top of the international charts.

Both films had previously enjoyed time atop the U.S. box office charts with Kung Fu Panda taking control of the countdown over the weekend.

The animated hit also debuted internationally over the weekend, scoring a number one in nine territories and grossing more than $20 million (GBP10 million) outside America.
