Duffy Steals European Crown From Madonna

By WENN, June 18 2008

Welsh soul star DUFFY has scored a chart double to become the queen of Europe.

The singer has toppled Madonna from the top of the European singles chart, and she's keeping hold of her album chart number one for a second week.

Duffy's hit song Mercy has overtaken Madonna's 4 Minutes collaboration with Justin Timberlake, which slips to number two on the new chart.

It's the same one-two on the album charts, with Duffy keeping Madonna's Hard Candy from the top spot.

Meanwhile, other acts in contention include Usher, whose Love In This Club climbs up five places to three on the singles chart, and Alanis Morissette, who scores a high debut on the European album chart with her new release Flavors of Entanglement.
