Carlin Lands Posthumous Mark Twain Prize

By WENN, June 24 2008

Late comedy legend GEORGE CARLIN is set to become the first posthumous celebrity to be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The 71-year-old star was announced as the recipient of this year's (08) award just days before his death from heart failure on Sunday (22Jun08).

And the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts insisted on Monday (23Jun08) that his death will not prevent them from honouring his lifetime achievements and becoming the 11th recipient of the prestigious prize.

The award ceremony will take place on 10 November (08) and will be aired on America's PBS network shortly after.
