SIR ELTON JOHN has allegedly threatened to launch legal action against a British newspaper for poking fun at his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball.

The Rocket Man hitmaker has complained about a spoof article which appeared in The Guardian's weekend supplement.

The singer is upset by an article which featured in a series titled, "A Peek at the Diary Of... " because it implied that the overheads for the event were excessive.

It isn't the first time the star has taken legal action over defamatory comments relating to his charity event. In 2006, he successfully sued the Daily Mail over claims that he had ordered guests at the party in 2005 not to approach him.

This year's (08) ball raised a record $20 million (GBP10 million) for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
