Rage Against The Machine Call For Bush 'War Crime' Trial

By WENN, July 13 2008

Rockers RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE have called for U.S. President GEORGE W. BUSH to be tried over the conflict in Iraq - branding the American leader "a war criminal".

The band, known for voicing their distaste for Bush, told revellers at Scotland's T in the Park music festival this weekend (beg12Jul08) the politician should be taken to court and tried for his "crimes" against victims of the Iraq war.

And frontman Zack de la Rocha told the crowd on Saturday (12Jul08) how their previous comments on Bush's administration had been misconstrued by U.S. network Fox News.

He told the crowd, "They (Fox) said we had said George Bush should be assassinated. We did not say that. We said he should be tried for being a war criminal."

And the singer urged fans to act against America's ruling government, telling revellers it was their generation who could help bring the long-running war to an end.

He adds, "(What they are afraid of) is you. If in protest to their war you burn down the American embassy... It's up to us, generation after generation to beat the system which perpetuates war. Wake up."

Last month (Jun08), the rockers announced they would stage gigs outside upcoming presidential conventions in August (08) and September (08) in order to disrupt the run-up to the election in November (08).
