The Dark Knight Rules Overseas

New BATMAN movie THE DARK KNIGHT is standing tall at the global box office for a second consecutive week, taking $65.6 million (GBP32.8 million) over the weekend (25-27Jul08).

The Batman Begins sequel, starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, now has an international haul of $166 million (GBP83 million) - but it's still only a fraction of its record-breaking U.S. box office earnings of $300 million (GBP150 million) in just 10 days.

Will Smith's action movie Hancock, about a dysfunctional superhero, is a distant second with $19.2 million (GBP9.6 million), while animated family film Kung Fu Panda is in third place with $17.8 million (GBP8.9 million).

Movie musical Mamma Mia! takes fourth place with $17.5 million (GBP8.75 million), and The X-Files: I Want to Believe debuts at five with $9.3 million (GBP4.65 million).
