Caine's Joke With The Queen

By WENN, July 30 2008

Veteran actor MICHAEL CAINE cracked jokes with British royal QUEEN ELIZABETH II when he was knighted.

The 75-year-old was made a Sir in 2000 after winning his second Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in The Cider House Rules.

And he has revealed he shared a laugh with the monarch as he received the honour.

Caine says, "I remember my investiture at Buckingham Palace very well indeed.

"I went up in front of the Queen and I knelt down, and she dubbed me - that's the right word, isn't it? - and when I got back to my feet again, she said, 'I get the impression that you've been doing your job for rather a long time'.

"And I heard myself saying, 'Same as you then, Ma'am!' I think that she saw the funny side of it."
