First Shakespeare Theatre Discovered

Archeologists have discovered a 16th Century playhouse in London believed to be the first to show a play by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.

The open-air theatre in Shoreditch, east London was unearthed by Museum of London staff.

Senior archaeologist Jo Lyon says, "We can now start to work on the detail of what the building here may have looked like and expand our knowledge of the playhouses of Elizabethan London."

The revered English playwright lived from 1564-1616 and wrote plays including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and MacBeth.
