Spinners Star Jackson Dies

THE SPINNERS singer PERVIS JACKSON has died. He was 70.

The R+B singer passed away on Monday (18Aug08) at a hospital in Detroit, Michigan. The cause of death is not yet known, although he was diagnosed with brain and liver cancer just two days before his death.

Jackson's wife Claudreen says doctors found tumours in July (08), but were unsure at the time if they were malignant, reports website USAToday.com.

Soul group the Spinners formed in Detroit in the 1950s. They had a number of hits in the 1970s including Mighty Love and I'll Be Around with Atlantic Records.

Jackson last performed with other members of The Spinners in July (08) in California.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons.
