Wainwright's Opera Shelved

August 30 2008

Singer/Songwriter RUFUS WAINWRIGHT's opera debut has been shelved after a falling out between him and the Metropolitan Opera.

The Canadian had been commissioned to compose and write an opera for the Met, but officials there were unhappy with the fact the dialogue and lyrics in the production were all in French, and the two sides have split.

Wainwright now hopes to introduce Prima Donna - about a day in the life of a diva - at the Manchester International Festival in England next summer (09).
