Elle Macpherson's 'Nose Out of Joint' Over Ex-boyfriend's Engagement

Supermodel Elle Macpherson's nose is said to be out of joint after her ex-boyfriend announced his engagement to Uma Thurman.

Macpherson, 44, dated wealthy businessman Arpad 'Arki' Busson for several years, but he claimed his staunch Catholicism precluded marriage to a divorcee such as Elle.

But Arpad last month announced his engagement to twice-divorced Thurman; and left the following entry in London's Times newspaper last weekend, "The engagement is announced between Arpad, son of Mr Pascal Busson, of Paris, and Mrs Florence Harcourt-Smith, of South of France, and Uma, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert A. F. Thurman, of New York.'

Elle even converted to Catholicism to prove her devotion to hedge fund manager Arpad, but he still refused to take her hand in marriage.

A source reveals, "Proposing to Uma of all people makes a mockery of all his old excuses.

"Plus it's not fun for Elle having her nose rubbed in it everywhere she looks.

"Arki could have kept it low key out of respect for Elle and the children, but instead they are going for maximum publicity. It's all a bit tasteless."

Their newspaper announcement was followed on Tuesday night by an exuberant engagement party.

A marquee in the garden of Arki's $20million London home played host to an array of stars, including Elton John, Sting, Sir Philip Green, Jemima Khan, Claudia Schiffer and Damien Hirst.
