Daniel Radcliffe Misses Gran's Funeral

Daniel Radcliffe missed his grandmother's funeral to go on stage in New York -- because it's what she would have wanted.

Audiences were unaware of the teenager's secret sorrow as he appeared in the critically-acclaimed play Equus on Broadway this week.

Elsie Radcliffe, his father Alan's mum, died nine days ago aged 79 following a long illness.

The Harry Potter star, 19, known to be especially close to Elsie, was due to fly back for the funeral on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Daniel said, "It's been a very difficult time but Dan chose to remain in New York after discussions with his family.

"They decided that it was what his grandmother would have wanted.

"She was a strong supporter of Dan and his career and she wouldn't have wanted him to miss a performance."
