The legal drama that has plagued pop artist Kesha (Sebert) may have a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Kesha’s fans, known as “Animals” have been supporting the artist through petitions, boycotts, and social media campaigns. Artists like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Adele, and Kelly Clarkson have spoken out in support of Kesha being released from her contract with her accused abuser.
A move from Sony to drop scandal-ridden producer Lukasz “ Dr. Luke” Gottwald drew collective cheers across social media on Wednesday. Twitter users threw a #SonyIsDroppingDrLukeParty, but hold on Animals. The news has yet to be confirmed by Sony.
The only statement Sony has released was after a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled that Kesha was still bound by her contract. “Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha. Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party.”
The Wrap first broke the news Wednesday that Sony was going to end its relationship with Gottwald before his contract expires in 2017.
There have been no statements made by Kesha’s attorney, Mark Geragos regarding the rumor. TMZ did release a statement from Dr. Luke’s camp. “Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony. His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony, and this has never come up.”
