Apparently, according to several reports, Jose Fernandez had both cocaine and alcohol in his body during the boat crash that took all three of their lives in Florida.
Associate Medical Examiner Kenneth Hutchins with the Miami-Dade Coroner’s office, just reported that the Miami pitcher was close to double the legal limit.
There was rumors that this was in fact the case, as regulars at the bar had said that they seemed wasted leaving the American Social Bar & Kitchen after a night of partying.
A native of Santa Clara, Cuba, Fernandez was a beloved sports figure in the city where so many of his countrymen have settled and prospered.
Drafted by the Marlins in 2011, he rose to become the franchise’s marquee pitcher, the National League Rookie of the Year 2013 and a two-time all-star.
