We have been fooled about a million times on the return of Tiger Woods to the game of golf. This time though he has confirmed to mainstream media: “I will be playing in the Safeway Open next week in Napa, CA.
Tiger woods has been absent from golf for about a year now, with his last performance at the Wyndham Championship in August 2015 looking something more like an amateur tour, hitting easy shots around the green fat and pulling/pushing shots off the tee.
Now though, other professionals on tour that have been watching tiger practice, are telling us that he is hitting everything pure and true. “He looks like the Tiger we knew years ago, and that is scary.”
Woods has blamed his troubles on the course with injuries, though those close to the golfer say that it was more of a lifestyle and mental issue more than anything.
Woods told reporters last month: “My rehabilitation is to the point where I’m comfortable making plans, but I still have work to do, whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery. My hope is to have my game ready to go. … It could be a fun fall.”
Either way, we are very happy to get one of the best golfers of all time back in the game, and so are the networks, as with Tiger playing, their advertising rates and attendance goes through the roof. Something golf needs right now, after a steady decline over the last few years.
Nike is probably also very happy campers with the announcement, after they confirmed just a bit ago that they will no longer be a manufacture of golf equipment, but focus on apparel only from now on.
Welcome back Tiger!
